As you are likely aware the long anticipated change in the age of protection from 16th to 18th birthday takes place on January 1st 2018. The change in the age of protection brings additional service and resource opportunities to more youth in our communities. The needs of this group are often complex and multi-facetted and will only be met with a well coordinated multi-agency approach to service.
We are pleased to let you know that this will be a topic of discussion at the January 19, 2018 Youth Homelessness Steering Committee meeting. Please come and hear from Family and Children’s Services and join a discussion on how the Change in the Age of Protection could fit within what is an increasingly coordinated and well resourced community approach for youth.
In addition, we are very excited to let you know that Nicholas Axas, Interim Program Manager of Addiction and Mental Health Services, Kingston Health Sciences Centre, will also be joining us on January 19th, to provide an update and presentation regarding Transition Age Youth.
